Questions, answered

Need this done for you? We handle Wide Format & Signage for businesses across Buffalo and the Twin Cities.

How tall should letters be for a given distance?

A common rule of thumb is one inch of letter height for every 10 feet of viewing distance for basic readability. For signage meant to catch attention from the road, designers often size up to roughly one inch per 4 to 5 feet.

Does font and color affect readability?

Yes. Bold, simple typefaces with strong contrast read from much farther than thin or script fonts. The calculator gives a height starting point — we fine-tune the typeface and contrast when we design the sign.

Can you design and print the sign too?

Absolutely — that’s our day job. We design and produce storefront signs, banners, and large-format graphics for businesses across Buffalo and the West Metro. Just request a quote.
